HMAS PERTH (I) MEMORIAL

HMAS PERTH (I) MEMORIAL FOUNDATION INC

A model of HMS Amphion, renamed HMAS Perth (I) comes to Western Australia.

On a trip to the UK, Cmdr Bob Mumery (OAM RAN Retd), a committee member of the HMAS Perth (I) Memorial Foundation, came across a partially completed model of HMS Amphion. This ship was renamed Perth and commissioned into the Royal Australian Navy in time for the Second World War.  The Lions clubs of WA took on the task of shipping the model to Western Australia to be completed and eventually presented to the Memorial Foundation.  Lions member and model builder Alan Hawkins has taken on the job of restoring the model.

The partially completed model is boxed in the UK ready for shipping to WA.

All boxed up and ready to go.
Model builder Alan Hawkins (right), goes over the details of the restoration with another local model builder, Gerry Westernberg.

This photo gives some idea of the size of the model. There is a lot of detailed work in front of Alan Hawkins!
